About
My photographic inspiration comes from daily walks through my neighborhood with my dogs. These walks are my ritual – seemingly routine but full of discovery. I photograph the plants I encounter along the way - leaves, seed pods, newly budding flowers - every stage of the growth cycle. Depending on the season, my pockets can get very full! These are pieces that are easy to overlook while moving through a busy day, but when isolated and given space, they reveal extraordinary color, structure, and presence.
I photograph these forms either on site or back in my home studio against a white backdrop. By removing their environment, I invite the viewer to slow down and engage more closely with their form. I find as a middle-aged artist, I am naturally drawn to plants later on in their life span. My intention is viewers will recognize something familiar yet newly seen and carry that awareness back into their day. I feel my work is approachable and accessible to a variety of people because of its familiar shapes and bold colors but then I hope to invite a second to see something that was more subtle and hidden in a second look.
